🪑 Can a Chair Really Save a Life?
We sit in chairs every day—to eat, read, learn, and rest. But did you know a chair can also help save lives?
In some schools and hospitals, there are emergency chairs. These special chairs have wheels and brakes and can help people get to safety quickly. Some even fold up so they can go down stairs during a fire or power outage.
Chairs can be strong, soft, or fancy. But no matter the style, a good chair needs to be safe and balanced. Most chairs have four legs, but some have just three—like stools or camping seats.
So how do they stay upright? It’s all about weight and support. If the legs are spaced out evenly and the seat is flat, the chair won’t tip over. Designers test chairs over and over to make sure they’re sturdy before people use them.
Did You Know?
There’s a chair called an evacuation chair that helps firefighters carry people out of tall buildings fast!
🧠Your Challenge:
Design a chair with three or four legs. Will it be tall like a stool? Soft like a couch? How will you make sure it’s safe to sit on—and doesn’t tip over?
