Yes, YOU are the key factor that makes or breaks the school year. You have a choice in how you respond to stress, behaviors, and changes.

But, you simply cannot make the best choices if you don’t take care of yourself first! That’s why we’re focusing this month on teacher self-care!

Take time to unplug!

Last week, I was overwhelmed with the to-do’s. The lists were so long, and even though I was working hard, I felt as though I was barely chipping away at the mountain of tasks.

Then, a friend invited me over to swim at her pool. At first, I felt guilty saying yes because I knew that my tasks would continue to pile up. When I got over to her house, it took me about an hour to get unplugged.

I ended up spending all day hanging out in her pool talking about nothing. It was wonderful! I came back home feeling refreshed, relaxed, and I had a sense of peace. I was able to get back to work the next day, and I accomplished more. The best part was I had a better attitude.

Finally, it’s important to remember that it’s okay to have feelings. You have permission to say no, miss out, and make choices that may not be everyone else’s first choice. Protect your heart and do what only you can do.
