🚀 How Long Would It Take to Fly to Mars?
People have walked on the moon, but no one has been to Mars… yet! Mars is much farther away—millions of miles from Earth. So, how long would it take to get there?
A rocket flying to Mars would take about 7 to 9 months. That’s almost a whole school year! The time depends on how fast the rocket goes and where Earth and Mars are in their orbits.
To get to space, rockets need a lot of force to lift off. That force is called thrust, and it’s made by powerful engines that burn fuel. Once the rocket blasts off, it keeps moving through space where there’s no air, no gravity pulling it down, and no stopping for snacks.
Scientists use math, computers, and tons of testing to make sure rockets go the right speed, the right direction, and don’t fall apart. Some rockets are even designed to land and fly again!
Did You Know?
NASA’s Perseverance rover is already exploring Mars—collecting rocks, taking pictures, and looking for signs of life.
🧠Your Challenge:
Design a rocket that flies without being touched. Could it launch with air, rubber bands, or a balloon? No hands allowed! How will you control the direction and speed?
