Spiders spin webs to catch their food—but have you ever wondered why they don’t get caught in their own traps?
Spider webs are made of silk. This silk comes from the spider’s body and is super thin and super strong. Some of the threads are sticky to catch bugs. Others are not sticky—and those are the ones the spider walks on!
Spiders are also really careful. They move slowly, using tiny hooks on their feet to avoid getting stuck. Some even clean their legs with special oils that help them stay slick and slidey.
Different spiders make different kinds of webs. Some look like wheels. Others are messy or shaped like funnels. But all webs are built with a plan—spiders are engineers of the insect world!
Their designs are strong enough to hold bugs, but light enough to float in the wind. That’s what makes webs so amazing!
