đź—Ľ Why Do We Have Water Towers?
Not all towers are built just to look cool. Some actually do important jobs—like holding water for entire towns!
A water tower is a tall structure with a big tank at the top. It uses gravity to push water down into pipes that lead to houses, schools, and fire hydrants. When the tower is full, the water sits high up so it can flow down easily when someone turns on a faucet.
The higher the tower, the more pressure it creates. That means the water can travel farther and faster without needing pumps!
Towers can also be built for other reasons—like to hold bells, lights, or even people! To be strong, a tower must have a wide base, balanced weight, and strong support beams. Engineers test different designs to see what holds up best in wind, rain, or heat.
Did You Know?
Some water towers are shaped like apples, peaches, or even cats to match the town’s name or mascot!
🧠Your Challenge:
Create the tallest tower you can—or design one that holds the most weight. What shape will make it strong? Try using blocks, cups, paper, or straws. How high can you go before it falls?
