10 Simple End-of-the-Year Student Gift Ideas That Don’t Break the Bank

I’ll never forget my daughter’s end of the year student gift ideas from her kindergarten teacher.

On the last day of school, she came home with a bag of books so big, it looked like she’d robbed a mini library. Ten books—for summer! I was floored. And… a little ashamed.

Because that same year, I gave my class absolutely nothing.

I had just started teaching, and I was tapped out—emotionally, financially, all of it. But I still felt like I let my students down.

The next year? I promised myself I’d be better prepared.

Now, I know what you might be thinking:

“But Sarah, you don’t have to give your students anything.”

And you’re right. No one’s handing out medals for end-of-year goodie bags.

But here’s the thing—I love giving gifts. It brings me joy.

That year, I wasn’t ashamed because I didn’t spend money.

I was caught off guard. I hadn’t even thought about it.

And for me? That felt like I missed a moment to show them how much they meant to me.

Student gifts don’t need to be Pinterest-perfect or pricey to be meaningful.

They just need to feel thoughtful—and not add more stress to your already overflowing to-do list.

So if you’re looking for easy, affordable ideas (with options you can prep in one night or delegate to a parent)?

Hello! I’m a science specialist trying to figure out a great science themed end of year gift for all of my students. I cam across the STEM challenge idea where you explained that you put your Rocket STEM Challenge in a baggie for students, which includes one straw, two sticky notes, and a sheet of paper and the challenge is for students to create the most efficient rocket. I also saw some pipe cleaners in the image though, so I’m a little confused about how this works. Would you be able to explain it in more detail?

Thank you so much for your help!

Thank you for your question! You can add either the Rocket STEM challenge in a baggie or you can add the pipe cleaners and straws in a baggy for other STEM builds. Sorry if that was confusing; I just liked that picture! LOL Another option I like is to put brain flakes in a baggy with it. You only need about 10 – 20 brain flakes for each kiddo, and the tub has hundreds in it. They love those! It’s really up to what you think they might like.
